THREE ARTIST ANALYSIS
Bill Viola
In this image you can see somebody (upside down & mid-motion) falling into some water, The main focal points are the person and the surrounding (lighter coloured) water. The exposure time will have likely been very short as the person is not blurred and the water seems still. The photographer would have been at a lower viewing point than were the movement happened.
|
This image depicts a man falling in water upright (mid-motion) The main focal point is the mans torso, as it is central and has a lighter background in contrast to the rest of the composition. The exposure time seems to have been fairly short as the man isn't very blurred but the water seems to be slightly blurred. The photographer would likely have been around the same level as where the movement happened.
|
This image appears to be something jumping out of the water. The main focal point is the person coming out of the water. The photographer was likely using a fairly short shutter speed as there is only a small amount of blur. He was also at a similar level to which where the movement happened.

MAN Vs NATURE
CONCEPT
In this project I captured the relentless battle between man and the natural environment that he Inhabit's is one that holds endless visual possibilities. The buildings and structures that man builds as symbols of prosperity and status are at their basic level simply a means of protection from the harsh environment that surrounds him.

Artist Analysis: Nadav Kander
Nadav Kander is a London based photographer known for his portraiture and landscapes. He was born on the 1st of December of 1961 in Tel Aviv, Isreal. Kander began taking pictures when he was 13 on a pentax. He says that the images he took then, and until he was 17, though uncompleted, have the same sense of quiet and unease that is part of his work today.
"Home to more than 40,000 people, the apartments, schools and hospitals that were hastily left following the controversial evacuation are stark reminders of past lives, leaving a disturbing sense of quite. uneasiness that I had never previously experienced."

This image appears to be an abandoned sports hall type area. You can tell it has been abandoned as there is a lot of debris on the floor, Also there seems to be a tree growing through the floor.
|
This composition shows a broken window overlooking other parts of Chernobyl. on parts of the window you can also see a partial figure of a person in coloured / tinted glass.
|
This image by Nadav seems to be a derelict / abandoned hostel or hospital. The light source seems to be coming form the left side as it appears more light than the right side. The paint on the ceiling and walls seem to be decaying away. Another sign that it has been abandoned is the amount of dust on the pillows.

APPLIED FORCE
Here I chose to capture surfaces being exposed to different types of forces; there can often be an interesting and intriguing visual outcomes.

Francois Delfosse is an architect from Belgium. In his Antarctica in a bag series, he tried to create the illusion of an arctic landscape through photographing the insides of plastic bags
IMPOSING ARCHITECTURE
Many Artist and Photographers have depicted imposing architecture such as factories bridges oil rigs power plants dams and wind turbines to reflect both the physical and visual impact of the places. Are there interesting places that you could record and represent in a way that shows their power and strength.
To capture this different perspective i used a low view points and close up perspectives give the towers a very powerful feel

3 strands
1. Capturing objects as they impact a liquid surface. I will take a series of 20 photos of a rock impacting the water surface at Alexandra Palace boating lake. This strand is inspired by Dan Toben Smith.
-Destruction of objects. I will take series of images
2. Capturing imposing architecture using a low angle viewpoint. I will take a series of 20 photos of large Victorian buildings in and around Covent Garden. This strand is inspired by Bernd and Hilla Bescher.
3. For my final strand I will be capturing sound energy through water. I will take a series of 20 photos of the way that water reacts to heavy bass. This strand is inspired by Slow Motion videos from youtube, And Martin Kilmas. It is also influenced by the artist Konrad Smoleński. http://www.konradsmolenski.com/index.php/project/2013--everything-/

FINAL PIECE
For my final piece i will develop the strand capturing sound energy. The idea is that the water will react to the sound energy to produce interesting photos. The subject matter will be the water. I will use a very quick shutter to reduce blur.
